What the work involves

You build cases that span the full special education cycle — referral and evaluation, eligibility determination, IEP goal writing, accommodation and modification selection, placement in the least restrictive environment, progress monitoring, reevaluation, manifestation determination, and behavior intervention planning. Each task starts with a scenario grounded in a plausible student profile: present levels, disability category, grade, setting, and the constraint that makes the decision hard. You then write the reference answer, and the reference answer is the real product — it has to state not just what a competent team would do but why, citing the instructional logic and the statutory or procedural basis behind it.

The second half of the work is grading. You read model responses and score them against your rubric, and the most valuable judgment you bring is catching output that is procedurally clean but educationally hollow: goals that are measurable but not tied to present levels, accommodations that are legal but don't touch the actual barrier, placement recommendations that satisfy LRE language while ignoring what the student needs to access instruction. Flagging that gap — advice that reads compliant but fails the student — is explicitly what AfterQuery is buying.

What the platform screens for

Expect an AI-led screen that probes depth rather than credentials. Typical probes: walk through how you'd write a measurable annual goal from a specific present level; explain when a functional behavior assessment is required versus advisable; describe a manifestation determination review and what happens after each possible outcome; distinguish an accommodation from a modification with a real example. Vague or textbook-level answers get followed up on immediately. Certification and two years of classroom experience are checked, but they are the floor, not the case.

Logistics

  • Fully remote and fully async — no scheduled calls, no live sessions.
  • Minimum commitment of 10 hours per week; you set the hours within that.
  • Pay observed in the $40–70/hr range, paid weekly via Stripe. Rate typically tracks task complexity and reviewer track record rather than being fixed at intake.
  • Ongoing project work rather than a one-off batch, with volume that varies by lab demand.
