The work

Each task you produce is a small, self-contained scientific programming problem set: one main problem plus at least three sub-problems that build logically toward it. You write the specification — constraints, inputs, expected outputs, units, tolerances — then implement a golden solution in Python and cover it with unit tests that are discriminative, meaning a plausible-but-wrong model answer fails them. Biology domains in scope tend to include population and epidemiological dynamics, enzyme kinetics, sequence and phylogenetic analysis, biophysical modelling, and statistical treatment of experimental data.

Tasks then go through QC on Turing's Central Task Platform: Tier 1 structure checks, Tier 2 quality rubrics, and Pass@K evaluation against several LLM judges (GPT, Gemini, Nemotron). Your job is not finished when the code runs — it is finished when the task is well-posed, deterministic, scientifically correct, and appropriately hard for the model tier being measured. Expect to iterate on QC feedback and expect rework rate to be tracked; consistent first-pass L1 approval is the stated target.

What the screen looks for

  • A graduate degree in biology or an adjacent life science, and research you can talk about in specifics.
  • Python that is genuinely fluent in a scientific stack — NumPy, SciPy, SymPy, and domain libraries like Biopython — not scripting familiarity.
  • Judgment about problem design: whether a spec has a unique correct answer, whether a test actually separates right from wrong, whether floating-point tolerance and random seeding have been handled.
  • Prior exposure to annotation, benchmark construction, or LLM evaluation is listed as desirable and will come up.

Logistics

Remote, but not async: 40 hours per week with a four-hour overlap with PST, plus sync calls for reviews, feedback, and standups. Eight-week contractor engagement with no paid or medical leave. Hiring is restricted to Bangladesh, Brazil, Colombia, Egypt, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Nigeria, Pakistan, Turkey, and Vietnam. Pay was not disclosed on this listing.
