What the work actually is

You build the material a frontier model is graded against. Day to day that means drafting expert-level legal tasks — contract interpretation problems, regulatory analysis questions, drafting and revision exercises — and writing the gold-standard solution alongside each one, with reasoning a reviewer can verify rather than just trust. The quality-control half of the role is reviewing other experts' submissions: checking whether the stated answer is actually correct under the governing law, whether the task is answerable and unambiguous, and whether the rubric was applied consistently. Genuine edge cases and rubric ambiguities go up to the Functional SME Lead rather than being resolved silently at your desk.

Note the title mismatch honestly: the listing is posted as "QC and Code Expert" under a coding category, but every requirement Turing states is legal practice. Treat this as a legal-domain QC seat. If a screener asks about software engineering, say plainly which of the stated requirements you meet.

What the screen looks for

  • Verifiable credentials: JD or regional equivalent, active bar admission, and a practice history at Senior Associate, Counsel, or in-house equivalent level.
  • Substantive depth under follow-up — commercial contracts, policies, and regulatory interpretation, described with the specificity of someone who has negotiated them, not read about them.
  • Calibration judgment: can you distinguish a wrong answer from a defensible answer you personally would have written differently?
  • Willingness to write down your reasoning so a second reviewer can audit it.

Logistics

Fully remote contractor engagement, up to eight weeks, with the possibility of extension being a platform matter rather than a promise in the posting. Minimum four hours a day, up to 40 hours a week, and at least four hours of daily overlap with PST — that overlap is the real scheduling constraint if you are outside the Americas. Pay is not disclosed in this listing; rates on Turing expert engagements are set per project and negotiated at offer stage. Process after application is a Job Interest Form for shortlisted candidates, then onboarding for those selected.
