What the work involves
This is a builder's role rather than a pure annotation or rating seat. You own DS/ML solution development from the data pipeline through to a deployed, monitored model: framing a vague business objective into a tractable learning problem, choosing an architecture that actually reflects the domain logic, engineering features, tuning, and defining the evaluation metric that tells you whether it worked. Work is cross-functional — you'll be defining problem statements and success criteria alongside product and engineering stakeholders, not receiving a spec.
Turing runs projects for frontier AI labs and enterprises, so the scope varies. Expect breadth across supervised and unsupervised learning, time-series forecasting, NLP, computer vision, and classical statistical inference, with Python and the standard stack (Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn) as the working floor. Deep learning experience — CNNs, RNNs, transformers — is a strong preference, as is hands-on work with cloud data platforms such as Databricks, AWS, or PySpark. Competitive ML background (Kaggle placements, MLEBench or similar benchmark work) is explicitly flagged as a plus and tends to come up in screening.
What the screen measures
The stated evaluation is roughly 75 minutes: a 60-minute technical interview and a 15-minute onboarding and cultural conversation. The technical round probes depth under follow-up — expect to be asked why you chose a model rather than which one you used, how you diagnosed a model that performed well offline and badly in production, and how you set an evaluation metric when the business goal doesn't map cleanly onto accuracy. Claims about production systems get pressed on specifics: scale, latency, retraining cadence, what broke.
