What the work actually involves
You author self-contained philosophical items: a scenario or argument, a prompt that forces the model to do real analytic work, and a reference answer in which the argumentative structure is made explicit — premises separated from conclusion, hidden assumptions named, the strongest objection stated in its strongest form. Tasks are typically batched by area, so an ethics specialist gets applied-ethics and normative-theory items rather than a random walk through the discipline.
The second half of the job is grading. You read model output and judge it on validity, soundness, and whether objections were treated fairly or strawmanned. Much of the value you add is negative: catching a passage that trades on two senses of 'free', or smuggles the conclusion into a premise, or performs even-handedness by listing views without adjudicating between them. Rubric comments have to say where the reasoning fails and why, in terms another philosopher would accept — not 'weak argument'.
What the platform screens for
- Verifiable credentials: an advanced degree in philosophy or a close neighbour, plus 2+ years of teaching, research, or published work. Expect to name programs, supervisors, courses taught, or publications.
- Genuine depth in one area — ethics, epistemology, logic, philosophy of mind — probed with follow-ups rather than accepted at face value. Broad-but-shallow reads poorly; a candidate who can go three questions deep on one debate reads well.
- Evaluation judgment: whether you can distinguish a conclusion you disagree with from an argument that is actually defective, and grade the second without punishing the first.
- Writing that survives scrutiny: reference answers are read by other philosophers and by lab researchers, so prose has to be exact and free of jargon used as decoration.
