The work

You build test material for AI models on notarial practice. That means authoring realistic scenarios — an acknowledgment where the signer's ID is expired, a jurat requested by mail, a remote online notarization with a credential analysis failure, a signer who appears not to understand the document — and writing the reference answer alongside the statutory reasoning that gets you there. The reasoning matters as much as the conclusion: labs need to know why a notary refuses, journals, or proceeds, with the state authority behind it.

The second half of the work is grading. You read model output on notarization questions and score it for procedural correctness under a named state's notary law. The highest-value thing you will do is flag guidance that sounds authoritative and reads correct to a layperson but quietly violates state law — notarizing a signature not made in your presence, certifying a copy of a vital record, advising on which certificate to use, or applying one state's ID rules to another's.

What the screen looks for

AfterQuery's screening is AI-led and follow-up heavy. It will ask for your commission state and status, then push on distinctions that separate active practitioners from people who read a handbook: acknowledgment versus jurat, personal appearance requirements, credible witness rules, journal and certificate obligations, and the line between notarial duty and unauthorized practice of law. Expect it to ask which state you are answering under, and to notice if you answer generically.

Logistics

100% remote, fully async, no calls or fixed hours. You set your weekly hours with a floor of about 10; pay is weekly via Stripe within an observed $35–60/hr band, typically tied to task type and how much of your work survives review. Project work is ongoing rather than a fixed engagement.
