The work

You will listen to 30–90 second field recordings in a structured web platform and document what is audible. Tasks include identifying instruments, estimating tempo and key, timestamping events such as traffic, sirens or applause, and writing concise scene notes. You may also compare recordings of the same song from different locations to distinguish stable musical features from changes in performance, environment or capture conditions.

Evaluation work and screening

In later phases, you will review AI-generated clip descriptions and identify claims that are correct, incorrect or unsupported by the audio, with a brief evidence-based explanation. The platform is likely to screen for at least 3 years of hands-on music or audio experience, instrument separation in noisy real-world recordings, tempo and key identification, timestamp accuracy, and clear written English. Calibration may also test how consistently you apply annotation categories when the evidence is ambiguous.

Logistics

This is a remote contractor role requiring quality headphones, a quiet workspace and reliable internet. Most listening and annotation work is completed independently through a web platform, with a paid onboarding and calibration session plus a short weekly sync. Required availability is 20–25 hours per week during the engagement window.
