The work

Mercor is staffing this project for an AI lab building generative music models. Day to day, you'll receive AI-generated lyrics and audio alongside the prompts that produced them, then score them against a written rubric — typically covering prompt adherence, lyrical craft, originality, and whether the Slovak reads as something a real songwriter would write rather than translated filler. A meaningful share of tasks involve comparing generated lyrics against published Slovak songs to flag close similarity or outright memorization.

Judgment about language is central. You'll be asked whether word choice, slang, register, and regional expressions land naturally for Slovak listeners, and whether rhyme and stress patterns work in Slovak rather than mimicking English phrasing. Written instructions and rubrics arrive in English; your evaluations and written justifications will draw on both languages. Critical listening gear — closed-back headphones or studio monitors — is a stated requirement, not a suggestion.

What the screen looks for

  • Verifiable music background. Songwriting, performing, composing, or music journalism credits. Named releases, credits, publications, or ensembles carry more weight than general enthusiasm.
  • Slovak depth. Native or near-native command, tested through a Bilingual Competency Interview conducted in Slovak.
  • Scene knowledge. Familiarity with contemporary Slovak artists, genres, and sub-genres — the kind of recall that lets you spot when a model is pastiching a specific act.
  • Rubric discipline. Whether you can apply someone else's standard consistently instead of substituting your own taste.

Logistics

Start is immediate, with the engagement running up to roughly six months. Commitment is flexible and asynchronous — most experts work around 20 hours per week, and there is no stated cap. Onboarding follows resume upload and the Slovak interview, usually with next steps within a few days. Pay in the $20–36/hr band reflects observed rates on similar Mercor music projects and is not guaranteed for any individual offer.
