What the work involves

You record scripted Mexican Spanish transcripts in a consistent "customer service" register — neutral to upbeat, clearly enunciated, evenly paced. The material is training and evaluation data for an AI lab's speech models, which means the recordings are judged on acoustic cleanliness and fidelity to the script rather than on dramatic range. Punctuation matters: commas, em dashes and ellipses are instructions about pacing, and the brief asks you either to honour them exactly as written or to adjust delivery so the line sounds natural while still matching the text. Expect a kickoff call, a sample or calibration round, and then a steady flow of scripts to record, edit and submit over roughly one to two weeks.

What the platform screens for

  • Verifiable origin. The listing is explicit that you must have been born and raised in Mexico. Screeners will probe where you grew up and how your accent sits relative to a neutral Mexican standard.
  • A real recording setup. Professional-grade microphone, audio interface, pop filter, a treated or soundproofed space, and editing software for post. Vague answers about "a good USB mic in a quiet room" tend not to survive follow-up.
  • English proficiency. All project communication, briefing and feedback runs in English, so the screen will check you can handle a technical conversation about levels, noise floor and file formats.
  • Script discipline. Evidence that you can reproduce a transcript exactly, flag errors rather than silently fix them, and keep tone and tempo stable across a long session.

Logistics and pay

Fully remote and recorded on your own schedule, apart from the kickoff call. The rate quoted on the listing is $175 USD per finished hour — that is, per hour of accepted submitted audio, not per hour spent in the booth. Observed rates in this category across Mercor projects run from roughly $35 to $175 per hour depending on how the project counts time; nothing here is guaranteed, and your effective hourly depends heavily on how many takes and how much editing each finished minute costs you. The engagement is short-term by design: 2–10 hours per week, roughly one to two weeks from the March 10, 2026 start.
