What the work actually involves

You are producing reference-quality engineering artifacts and then judging machine-produced versions of the same thing. A typical task might ask you to model a simple component — a bracket, a shaft collar, a housing cover — in SolidWorks, NX, Creo, or CATIA, then document the critical dimensions, datums, GD&T callouts, and manufacturing tolerances in a structured format the training pipeline can consume. Other tasks run the other direction: you receive a model or drawing an AI system generated and write a critique that says precisely what is wrong, why an engineer would reject it, and what the correct output looks like. Conceptual FEA work appears too — commenting on whether a proposed mesh, constraint set, load case, or stress interpretation is defensible, rather than running full validation studies yourself.

What the screen is looking for

micro1's process is AI-led and leans on follow-up questioning. It is checking that you have genuinely sat in a design engineer's seat: that you can talk about tolerance stack-ups you actually resolved, drawings you released, and parts that came back from the shop wrong. Expect probes on which CAD packages you have real hours in versus passing familiarity — multi-platform depth is explicitly preferred, and overclaiming here surfaces quickly under follow-up. Your written answers are part of the assessment; documentation clarity is the product here, so vague or unstructured prose counts against you even when the engineering is sound. No AI background is expected or asked about.
