What the work actually involves

You will be handed the kind of brief a client drops on a consulting team: a messy, underspecified business problem plus a pile of scattered inputs. Your job is to do what you did on engagements — structure the question, decide what actually needs to be answered, run a defensible quantitative cut in Excel, and land one or two recommendations in an executive-ready deck. The difference is that the deliverable, and often your reasoning trail, becomes training or evaluation material. On some tracks you will instead review model-produced analyses and decks: identifying where the framework is MECE in name only, where a chart doesn't support the headline, where the synthesis has mistaken restating the data for insight.

What the platform screens for

micro1's process is AI-led and leans on specifics. Expect to be asked which firm or function you consulted in, what industries and problem types you handled, and how senior the audience for your decks was. Follow-ups get concrete fast: the logic of a particular sizing estimate, how you'd structure a given ambiguous prompt, what you'd cut from a 20-slide deck to get to five. Screens tend to reward candidates who can narrate a real engagement end to end — question, hypotheses, data, so-what — and penalise those who speak only in frameworks and buzzwords. No AI or machine learning background is expected or asked about.

Logistics

  • Fully remote, contractor engagement, invoiced hourly.
  • Largely asynchronous task work with periodic calls with project leads to align on deliverable standards.
  • Volume varies by customer project; many contributors treat this as part-time alongside other work, some ramp to near full-time when a project is live.
  • You need your own machine with working PowerPoint and Excel, plus a setup that supports clear verbal calls.

Pay of $60–120/hr reflects rates observed on comparable micro1 expert tracks. It is not a guaranteed band — actual offers depend on seniority, assessed deliverable quality, and the specific customer project.
