What the work involves
You will spend most of your time doing two things: producing gold-standard redlines on contracts like MSAs, NDAs, SaaS terms, and DPAs, and grading what a model produced against the same fact pattern. A typical task hands you a counterparty draft, a client posture ("we are the vendor, we will not accept uncapped indemnity, we want mutual confidentiality"), and asks you either to negotiate it as you would in practice or to score a model's markup against a rubric — clause by clause, with written justification for each deduction. Simulated negotiation tasks may involve multiple turns: the model proposes, you counter, and the exchange becomes training data for how a model should hold a position under pressure.
The feedback you write matters more than the redline itself. "Cap should be 12 months' fees" is not useful to a research team; "the model accepted a carve-out from the liability cap for breach of confidentiality without flagging that it swallows the cap given the data volumes contemplated in Schedule 2" is. Expect to explain not just that a clause is off-market but why, and what a reasonable counterparty would actually accept.
What the platform screens for
micro1's screen is AI-led and leans on follow-up questions. It will ask you to name agreement types you have personally drafted or negotiated, at what stage, and with what degree of supervision — and it will press on specifics if your first answer is broad. Expect at least one live-reasoning prompt: a clause or short scenario you must analyse out loud, then defend when the interviewer pushes back. Rubric discipline is tested separately from legal skill; graders who let personal drafting preference masquerade as an objective error are the most common screen-out at this level.
Logistics
- Remote, contractor, part-time — commonly 10–20 hours per week, with some projects scaling higher during model release cycles.
- Largely asynchronous task queues, with occasional calibration sessions or guideline reviews with product and research staff.
- Pay of $70–90/hr reflects rates observed on this listing and similar micro1 legal projects; actual rate depends on project, experience, and calibration performance, and is not guaranteed.
- Work volume fluctuates. Treat it as supplemental income alongside practice or a career gap, not a replacement for a salaried role.
