What the work actually is

This listing is unusual for Sidequest because phase one is not evaluation work at all — it is a one-time deliverable. You complete a consent form authorizing a research organization to access your personal ChatGPT history, follow the linking instructions provided, supply the email tied to your personal ChatGPT account, and self-verify that the account meets the stated criteria. That is the whole of phase one. Phase two — ongoing project work on the same program, which is where the $50/hr observed band applies — is offered by invitation only to experts who cleared phase one, and is not guaranteed by completing the data share.

What the platform screens for

The screen is almost entirely factual and verifiable, not skills-based. Expect questions about your location in Japan, native Japanese fluency, years lived and studied in Japan, the age of your ChatGPT account, roughly how many conversations you have had in the last nine months, whether at least one saved memory exists on the account, and whether the conversations are predominantly in Japanese. The critical filter is account type: only personal accounts qualify. Work, employer, or enterprise accounts are out of scope, as is any account containing proprietary or confidential material. The application also contains an embedded ChatGPT Power User Interest Form — it appears as a step inside the application, not as an external link, and submissions missing it are not reviewed.

Logistics and expectations

  • Fully remote, but geographically gated: you must be based in Japan.
  • Phase one is asynchronous and short — form, consent, account linking.
  • Verification is performed by the research organization after consent and may take up to two weeks.
  • Phase two hours and cadence are set on invitation; treat the pay band as observed for that phase, not promised for phase one.

Before applying, it is worth opening your own account and checking the facts rather than estimating them: scroll your conversation list back nine months, confirm the account creation date is more than three months ago, and open settings to confirm at least one saved memory exists. Candidates are rejected far more often for a mismatch between what they claimed and what the organization found than for anything else.
