What the work involves
You receive prompt-and-response pairs drawn from humanities subject matter — a question about Kantian ethics, a reading of a passage from Dostoevsky, a claim about the Treaty of Westphalia, a phonological analysis — and you judge them against a written rubric. The judgment is rarely a simple true/false call: you are asked whether the response actually answers the question posed, whether its reasoning holds together, whether it presents a contested interpretation as settled fact, and whether it omits something a competent scholar would consider essential. Expect to write short, defensible justifications for your ratings, and expect your ratings to be compared against those of other reviewers.
Much of the difficulty is disciplinary breadth. A history PhD may be asked to assess an answer touching on religious studies or political theory. The platform is not testing whether you are a specialist in everything — it is testing whether you know the boundary of your own competence and can distinguish a confident-sounding synthesis from a sound one.
What the screen looks for
- Five or more years of relevant experience and a degree or equivalent depth in a humanities field
- Evidence you can spot subtle errors: an anachronism, a misattributed argument, a citation that does not exist, a conclusion that does not follow from its premises
- Rubric discipline — consistency across dozens of items, not a single elegant critique
- Familiarity with annotation or evaluation workflows is preferred rather than required; prior content review, peer review, or grading experience reads well here
- Written English strong enough that your rationales are usable as training signal themselves
Logistics
Contractor engagement, roughly four weeks, stated as 40 hours per week with at least four hours overlapping Pacific time. Fully remote and largely asynchronous within that overlap window. Pay is not disclosed in the listing; Turing typically sets rates per project and per region, and terms are discussed after shortlisting. Shortlisted candidates receive a Job Interest Form before onboarding steps.
