What the work actually involves
This is a short-term customer project, not an open-ended annotation queue. You will be walking through system-generated tax filing workflows — the kind of guided flow an AI assistant might produce when helping someone prepare a return — and comparing what it produces against your own real documents and your real 2025 filing experience. Day to day that means running assigned scenarios end to end, annotating where the workflow miscategorizes income, skips a schedule, mishandles a deduction, or asks for information in a confusing order, and then scoring each step against the rubric the project supplies rather than against your personal preference. Written feedback is the primary deliverable; some projects add a verbal walkthrough or a recorded session. Coordination is asynchronous with project coordinators, and turnaround expectations are stated per batch.
The data access requirement, stated plainly
The listing asks you to connect personal financial accounts through Plaid and to link a personal Gmail and Google Drive, and to share real tax-related documents. micro1 states that downstream use occurs after PII sanitization. This is a genuine condition of the role, not a formality, and it is the single most common reason candidates decline after screening. Decide before you apply whether you are comfortable with it — and if you use a dedicated Google account or have questions about retention and scope, raise them during the screen rather than after onboarding.
What the screen is looking for
- Real filing experience, recent. Whether you filed yourself or worked with a CPA, you should be able to talk concretely about what was on your 2025 return — forms, schedules, income types, anything unusual.
- Rubric discipline. Evaluators who substitute intuition for the scoring definition are the expensive kind of mistake. Expect scenarios that test whether you can score something you personally dislike as acceptable because the rubric says so.
- Annotation legibility. Findings have to be usable by someone who never saw your screen. Vague notes get rejected in QA.
- Immediate availability and mainland U.S. residence.
Logistics
Fully remote, contractor engagement, asynchronous. Observed pay for this listing spans $35–110/hr — wide because micro1 bands by depth of tax background and by project tier; treat the upper end as tied to professional tax credentials or prior evaluation work, not as a default. Hours are typically part-time and batch-driven, with the project described as short-term.
