What the work actually is

You watch video of a robotic arm attempting a physical task — grasping a mug, opening a drawer, stacking blocks, wiping a surface — and break it into labeled segments using the customer's annotation tool and guideline document. That means marking where an action begins and ends, what object it touches, what state changed, whether a sub-goal succeeded, and where a failure actually originated rather than where it became visible. If a grasp slips at frame 200 but the object doesn't fall until frame 260, the guideline decides which frame carries the error label, and your job is to apply that decision the same way every time. Ambiguous clips get flagged with a short written note explaining what you saw and why the rubric doesn't cleanly cover it — those notes are read, and they often drive guideline revisions.

The reason the listing targets game people is specific: gameplay design and game QA train you to see a continuous activity as a state machine. Action, precondition, interaction, outcome, failure mode. Robotic manipulation footage decomposes the same way. Repro-steps discipline from bug reporting transfers almost directly to annotation notes.

What the screen looks for

  • Real decomposition experience. Shipped titles, a design doc, a QA tenure, a technical design role — something where you formally described behavior in terms of states and transitions.
  • Consistency over cleverness. The strongest annotators follow a guideline they privately disagree with, and raise the disagreement separately rather than quietly annotating their own preferred way.
  • Written precision. Short, concrete, unambiguous notes. Bug-report register, not essay register.
  • Tolerance for repetition. Hundreds of clips that look nearly identical, held to identical criteria on clip 400 as on clip 4.

Logistics

Contractor, fully remote, asynchronous. Open to candidates in North America, Latin America, Europe, the UK, and Oceania. Work arrives in batches with deadlines rather than fixed shifts, so you choose your hours; volume fluctuates with project phase and is not guaranteed week to week. You'll need a reliable machine and connection capable of scrubbing video frame by frame in a browser tool. Expect a calibration period where your early annotations are reviewed against gold-standard labels, and occasional peer-review passes on other annotators' work.
