What the work involves

You receive Dutch audio files, typically between one and thirty minutes, and produce time-aligned transcripts against a project style guide. The audio is rarely studio-clean: expect overlapping speakers, phone-line compression, background noise, code-switching into English, and regional variation from Groningen to West Flanders. Depending on the project you may be asked for strict verbatim (every 'eh', repetition and false start preserved), clean-read transcription, or a hybrid with tagged non-speech events. A meaningful share of tasks is review work — grading someone else's transcript or a model-generated one, correcting it, and writing a short justification for the errors you flagged.

What micro1 screens for

The screen is AI-led and conversational. It probes native-level Dutch command, whether you can describe concrete transcription conventions you have actually applied, and how you reason when the audio is genuinely ambiguous rather than simply hard. Expect follow-ups that push on specifics: which dialects you can reliably resolve, how you handle a name you cannot verify, what you do when two annotators disagree. Prior professional transcription, subtitling, court or medical reporting, linguistics study, or speech-data annotation all read well — self-taught experience counts if you can talk about your conventions precisely.

Logistics

  • Fully remote, contractor basis, invoiced hourly; observed band $25–30/hr, varying by project and review responsibility.
  • Asynchronous with deadlines per batch — no fixed shift, but batches often carry 24–72 hour turnarounds.
  • Volume fluctuates: some weeks bring 20+ hours, others little. Most contributors treat it as supplementary.
  • You supply your own equipment: reliable computer, closed-back headphones (laptop speakers will fail you on overlapping speech), stable internet, and a quiet workspace.

What tends to disqualify

Non-native or near-native-only Dutch, inability to distinguish Netherlands from Flemish usage, and unwillingness to follow a style guide that conflicts with personal preference. Speed without accuracy is not rewarded here; transcripts are spot-audited word by word.
