What the work involves
You work inside a remote Ubuntu/Linux desktop (typically over noVNC) with FreeCAD open, and you build parts from written design briefs — Part Design features, Sketcher constraints, assemblies, TechDraw sheets, and STEP/IGES exports. Every session is a recorded demonstration: your clicks, constraint choices, dimension entries and parameter values become the reference trajectory a model learns from, so a messy, backtracking, over-constrained-then-deleted workflow has real cost. Average handling time is budgeted at 60 minutes per task, which means a task is one substantive part or small assembly, not a five-minute extrusion.
The second half of the job is adversarial. You read briefs looking for ambiguity, under-constrained sketches, missing library models, and FreeCAD crashes or version quirks, and you write that up as solvability feedback. You also deliberately build the same part a different legitimate way — pad versus revolution, different sketch plane, different datum strategy — to check whether the automated verifier accepts technically correct geometry it didn't anticipate. Reports of false rejections are often the highest-value output of the engagement.
What the screen looks for
Turing's process here is a job interest form followed by profile review, with any AI-led screening focused on concrete FreeCAD depth rather than general CAD talk. Expect to be asked which workbenches you actually use, how you diagnose an over-constrained sketch, what you do about topological naming when a feature reference breaks, and whether you've run CAD in a Linux desktop over VNC with the latency that implies. Vague mechanical-design credentials without FreeCAD specifics tend not to survive follow-up questions.
