What the work involves

You are assigned to one of nineteen research areas — from Abelian bosonization and Luttinger-Ising sectors, through SYK melonic diagrammatics and Kitaev honeycomb Z2 flux sectors, to magnetic space group analysis of neutron diffraction data and superspace symmetry of modulated crystals. Depending on where your publication record sits, you may be creating original research-level problems, producing reference solutions, reviewing another physicist's completed work, or auditing it. The assignment is agreed with you after matching, not before.

This is research-grade output rather than volume annotation. A problem or solution has to be complete enough that another specialist in your subfield can follow the derivation and verify it independently, which means written reasoning — not just a final expression — is part of every deliverable. Expect to work in LaTeX with Python, SymPy and Jupyter alongside; familiarity with an agentic coding extension in VS Code is useful but declared gaps are acceptable.

What the platform screens for

  • Phenomenon-level publication match. The listing is explicit that the single most common decline reason is publishing on the adjacent topic. Papers on topological order in general do not qualify you for the Moore-Read edge theory area or the disclination/filling-anomaly area.
  • Verifiable authorship. Three to five representative papers with arXiv IDs or DOIs, ideally within five years, first author strongly preferred. Every entry is checked against the public record, and an area selection submitted without a proof paper is not scored.
  • Method families you can point to in your own work — field-theoretic, many-body numerics, band topology, response and transport, or scattering and symmetry analysis.
  • Written English at B2 or above, since the argument you set out is a large part of the value.

Logistics

Remote and fully asynchronous, no fixed hours. Roughly 10 hours per week sustained across an 8–10 week window, starting immediately. Observed rate is $80–110/hr, set by how deep the subdomain match is rather than by seniority alone. The process is: form with method self-attestation and up to five area selections (each with a proof paper), publication verification, then either direct onboarding or a short live alignment call. A 30–45 minute assessment may be added in some cases but most applicants will not see one.
