What the work involves

This is voice performance for machine consumption as much as human. You'll receive scripts — character lines, conversational turns, emotional reads, sometimes dubbing or ADR-style passes — and record them in US English with the emotion, pacing, and personality the brief calls for. Batches vary: one week may be expressive character work across multiple registers, another may be a long run of neutral conversational lines where consistency across hundreds of takes matters more than flair.

Day-to-day, expect to read a brief, record, self-check for noise and clipping, name and export files to a specified convention, and upload by a stated deadline. Feedback loops are real — a reviewer may flag that a read is too broad, too flat, mouth-noise-heavy, or inconsistent with an earlier session, and you re-record the affected lines. Some projects ask for annotation alongside recording: tagging emotion, marking disfluencies, or flagging script lines that don't work naturally in spoken US English.

What the screening looks at

Turing shortlists on qualifications and professional voice experience, then runs a delivery review — in practice, a sample recording judged on audio cleanliness, direction-following, and format compliance. An AI-led screen will press on verifiable specifics: what you record with, what your room treatment actually is, what floor noise you achieve, what formats and sample rates you deliver, and how you handle a revision request. Vague answers about "professional quality" tend to unwind under follow-up; equipment names, signal-chain detail, and concrete past projects hold up.

Logistics

  • Fully remote, freelance — explicitly not employment, with contract extension tied to performance and project need
  • Asynchronous: you work to deadlines rather than fixed hours, though revision turnaround is often short
  • Pay band undisclosed by the platform; rates on comparable Turing voice work are typically per-task or per-audio-hour and negotiated at onboarding
  • Requires your own high-quality recording setup for remote work; in-studio sessions exist for some projects
