What the work involves

This is a one-shot recording task, not an ongoing engagement. You receive a short script and a step-by-step recording guide, read the script aloud in your own natural English accent, and upload the resulting file. AfterQuery estimates 15 minutes or less end to end, and pays a flat $50 per accepted submission. Recordings like these feed speech-recognition and speech-synthesis evaluation sets, where the value comes entirely from the accent being genuine and the audio being clean.

One thing to sort out first: the listing is internally inconsistent. The title asks for an Australian English accent; the body asks for "authentic German-accented English." These are different cohorts. Before you record anything, confirm with the platform which accent bucket the current batch is filling — submitting the wrong one wastes the slot and may count as a rejected submission.

What the platform screens for

  • Accent authenticity. The screen exists to filter out imitation. Reviewers ask where you grew up, what language you spoke at home, how long you have spoken English and in which country — the aim is a plausible biographical account of how your accent formed, not a performance.
  • Recording hygiene. No background noise, no room echo, no clipping, consistent distance from the mic, one continuous take unless the guide says otherwise. A phone in a carpeted room usually beats a laptop in a kitchen.
  • Instruction compliance. File format, naming convention, sample rate, script read verbatim including any awkward phrasing. Most rejections on tasks like this are compliance failures, not voice failures.
  • Speed. It is described as quick-turnaround, so responsiveness matters more than a long résumé.

Logistics

Fully remote and asynchronous. You need a smartphone or computer with a working microphone, a quiet space, and the ability to follow written English instructions without hand-holding. There are no scheduled hours; you take the task when it appears and submit within the stated window. Pay is a flat $50 per submission as observed on the listing — this is a per-task fee, not an hourly rate you can accumulate, and repeat work depends on whether the project reopens.
