What the work involves

You will be assigned to one of two tracks. Question authoring means producing original multiple-choice items in your subdomain that test conceptual reasoning rather than recall: a self-contained stem, one defensible correct answer, nine plausible-but-wrong alternatives calibrated to trip an expert solver, a step-by-step Chain-of-Thought solution in markdown, a difficulty rating (Medium ≈ intro undergraduate, Hard ≈ advanced undergraduate, Expert ≈ post-graduate), and 1–5 references from peer-reviewed journals or university repositories. Question verification means auditing items written by others for ambiguity, missing premises, imprecise terminology, or multiple defensible answers — editing where warranted and writing a short justification for every change.

The named domains are narrow: neuromorphic engineering, human factors and engineering psychology, consumer and market psychology, psychometrics, digital health, and psychedelic-assisted therapy. Expect to work mostly inside one of them. The hardest part of the job is usually distractor construction — nine wrong options that are each wrong for a specific, articulable reason, without collapsing into trick questions or trivia.

What the screen looks for

  • Verifiable credentials: PhD, PsyD, or advanced doctoral candidacy in psychology or an adjacent field. Master's degrees are considered when subdomain depth is unusually strong.
  • Depth under follow-up. The AI interviewer will pick a claim you make and press on it — methodology, effect sizes, competing findings, measurement assumptions.
  • Evaluation judgment: can you say why an item is ambiguous, not just that it feels off?
  • Written clarity. Reasoning traces are the deliverable; verbose or hand-wavy prose fails review.
  • Honest availability. Roughly 10+ hours/week is the stated expectation.

Logistics

Fully remote, fully asynchronous, no fixed hours or standing meetings. Work is task-based through Mercor's platform; volume can vary with project demand, so treat this as supplemental rather than replacement income. The $50–63/hr band is what has been observed on this listing and is not guaranteed — actual rates depend on track, domain scarcity, and assessed depth.
